Do Filming Amines Help Power Plant Boiler Systems

AMINES BOILERS CORROSION OXYGEN POWER STEAM NALCO
Abstract
Changes in the fossil-fueled power generation industry have forced utility operators to cycle their plants more frequently. The effects of cyclical operation have been documented by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and industry leaders. To minimize corrosion and transport of corrosion products through the steam system, interest has grown over the past several years in the application of film-forming technologies either for protection during lay-up (the primary interest), or for improved on-line corrosion inhibition. This article will discuss the changes in the industry that have created this interest, current practices to address the needs and a discussion of the field trial protocol in progress at NIPSCO to evaluate a number of filming amine technologies.
