Abstract

In modern power plant cycles, condensate contains minor levels of contaminants that consist of both dissolved and suspended materials. Removal of these low levels of contaminants reduces deposition in the steam generator and also reduces transport of deposit-prone, and potentially corrosive contaminants to the turbine. For modern, high-pressure steam cycles, the removal of these minor levels of contamination is highly desirable. The level of contaminants present in condensate varies with the operation of the unit. High levels of suspended solids are present during and shortly after the startup of a unit. The suspended solids result from corrosion that occurs to materials of construction in the cycle. Suspended solids are removed by filtration.
