Abstract
The main objective of all cooling tower water treatment programs is to provide acceptable protection and operation of all the cooling water contacted equipment. The level of protection and the impact on the cooling tower water system operation relative to the cooling water chemistry varies with and within different industries. This is directly related to the specific design and operation of the cooling water system and governs the selection of the cooling water treatment program. Thus, details of the design and operation of the cooling water contacted equipment is the initial step in the selection of the water treatment program. Different industries require different cooling water treatment programs because there are major differences in the design of cooling water contacted equipment, and the degree of protection required.
