Abstract
Water and steam chemistry/treatment issues continue to evolve in the power industry. Given that even one boiler tube or turbine blade failure can cost a plant hundreds of thousands to potentially millions of dollars, or even lead to injury and death, it is imperative that plant personnel remain informed of modern developments such as is available by attending technical conferences. One example is the annual Electric Utility Chemistry Workshop (EUCW). This article focuses on three presentations given at this year’s conference, which occurred June 3-5, 2014 in Champaign, Ill. Water treatment topics mentioned in this briefing include conservation, corrosion, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), regulations, reuse, steam, zero liquid discharge, and wastewater.
