Abstract
Peeaks and valleys. To some, the scenery one might witness in mountainous regions can help provide a mental picture for the historical sales trends one might note in the semiconductor industry. Over much of its history, and particularly during the past 23 years, this important industry to the water business has been marked by periods of ever increasing sales that are then followed by times of slower growth. Some of this has mirrored the larger national and world economies, and some of the up and down movement has come because of new technology development within the microelectronic industry. The semiconductor industry is made up of companies that offer technologies and products that touch many areas of modern life. Here are a few of many examples: home computers, home entertainment, modern appliances, cell phones, telecommunications, automobiles, industrial manufacturing, modern medicine, defense, and satellite communication.
