DESALINATION MEMBRANES MUNICIPAL WATER REVERSE OSMOSIS
Abstract
The Carlsbad seawater desalination demonstration pilot facility started up in late 2002 and began continuous, 24 hours/7 days per week operation in 2003 to support a 50 million gallons per day seawater desalination facility co-located with the Encina power plant in Carlsbad, Calif. The pilot has served numerous supporting technical and informational roles over the years, including permitting, challenge testing, comparison of alternative pretreatment systems, and also as an educational and public relations tool to communicate seawater desalination technology to the public. Construction of the full-scale facility is expected to begin in 2008.
