Abstract
Filters are used in many processes at power plants, oil refineries, pharmaceutical plants, and other industries. A primary application is water purification for process use, steam generation, and at times, even potable water production. This article outlines some of the fundamental concepts of roughing filtration with fiber or matrix materials, and is particularly geared towards the many new engineers, chemists, and technicians that industries are hiring to replace retiring Baby Boomers.
