Feasibility Studies for Alum Recovery from Sludge
By Arun V. Parwate, Ph.D.
Abstract
Alum recovery has recently gained more attention because many water utilities need to improve their sludge handling and disposal practices. In India, where water and other mineral resources are meager compared to the population to be served, there is a need to conserve the natural resources both qualitatively and quantitatively. Though some work in this direction has been done elsewhere, there are no reported studies from India. Therefore, an attempt has been made to study the feasibility of recovery of alum from water treatment plant sludge.
