Abstract
Microbial control is one key to successful water treatmentï¾—whether in the municipal, industrial, or high-purity water applications. Consequently, water systems biocontrol is a multi-million dollar business when one considers the different treatment technologies and applications this important field encompasses. Years ago, the traditional view of biocontrol was the use of chlorine to control waterborne microbials in water systems. While chlorine uses remains widespread, modern control methods extend from the use of biocide chemicals, to ozone, ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, to hot water, and filtration.
