MARKETS MEMBRANES NANOTECHNOLOGY REVERSE OSMOSIS
Abstract
The next step. Those who have followed water treatment technologies for any time have watched incremental changes occur among the types of technologies used. Ion exchange (IX) proved better than zeolite softening, and reverse osmosis (RO) in turn has come to replace IX in a number of applications. In the past decade or so, electrodeionization has made inroads into traditional deionization applications. Similar stories are found among other types of water treatment and monitoring technologies. Within the water business, the newest area of development involves nanotechnology. The application of nanotechnology to water treatment was the subject of some presentations at the 2009 WATER EXECUTIVE Forum, which was conducted here March 30-31. This article will review some of those presentations by individuals active in the development and commercialization of nanotechnology in water treatment uses.
