Tips on Increasing Pump System Efficiencies

MAINTENANCE PUMPS TROUBLESHOOTING
Abstract
I n the United States, more than 2.4 million pumps used in industrial manufacturing consume approximately 142 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity annually. At a cost of 5 cents per kWh for electricity, this translates into more than $7.1 billion per year in operation costs. Even one continually operated centrifugal pump driven by a fully loaded 100-horsepower motor will use 726,000 kWh and cost about $36,000 per year to use. As result, larger pumps amassing significant operating time should be surveyed to determine pump efficiencies, energy consumption, costs, and potential savings. For many pumps, even a 10% reduction in operating costs can produce $3,600 in savings annually.
