Abstract
ULTRAPURE WATER Pharma 2010, which was held last May, was part of a continuing series of conferences on pharmaceutical water treatment sponsored by this journal. Other recent past conferences that had technical sessions focused on pharma have been conducted in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2009. Additionally, other past ULTRAPURE WATER conferences have had technical papers, and training workshops on high-purity pharmaceutical water issues. Part 1 of this article series, published in the January 2011 ULTRAPURE WATER journal, examined presentations from the 2010 conference that covered these topics: Developing trends on pharmacopoeia water quality standards and harmonization efforts. Regulatory issues of pretreatment/source water used in pharma facilities. Microbial biofilms. Hot water and ozone sanitization in pharmaceutical applications. Part 2 of this series will review presentations that covered these topics: rouge, ozone sanitization, and a biological depth filter.
