Abstract
Industrial water conservation efforts include techniques to pump mineral rich well water, reclaim water from various points of deionized water production and even collect rainwater. Maximizing conservation potential and creating significant cost savings requires understanding numerous key components such as point of generation, chemical composition and seasonality. A semiconductor research site was given a 20% water reduction challenge to offset a shrinking budget and reduce environmental impact. The approximately 30-year-old water treatment plant processes relating to the deionized (DI) water production, and the supplemental sources serving the cooling towers were reviewed. This article reviews the process and presents data based on the author’s research.
